Up for a Laugh?

Sheffield Undergraduate, Aidan Roberts, reckons that he is the King of Comedy. Follow his top tips to 'bring on the comedy' and see whether you could be the next Peter Kay...

Queen Victoria once said, "We are not amused!" Well I reckon that's her fault! I believe that almost everything has comedy potential. I love taking the everyday as an opportunity for comedy, usually purely for my own amusement value, yet often for the sake of the wider community. Here's but a heaped teaspoon from the ocean of comic possibility for you to gander and be inspired by!

Pose as a Famous Person
Recently I was told that I look like the lead singer from Razor Light (opinions on Forum!!). So, I decided to pose as the man himself. Two accomplices joined the foray - an adoring fan and 'paparazzi photographer'. I gave autographs and then got chased down the street. Hilarious!

Fall Over
I was out in Rwanda, we'd just played volleyball and had caused a bit of a stir by being a tad 'controversial' shall we say. Walking away, I encountered a prime tree root. I launched myself over this and rolled on further down the street. I loved it, everyone loved it.

Tell an Awful Joke
A sure fire guarantee to an easy laugh! Say, for example, you are waiting for the bus at the bus stop. You see it drawing ever closer and you say to those nearby "We're at the bus stop but will the bus, stop?! Eh eh, ha ha." They'll love it.

Visual Humour
If you're walking beside someone, enjoying light conversation, pretend you don't notice the approaching lamp post and with your head turned engaging in conversation take a full impact!

Greet your Best Friend
Walking along, locate someone previously unbeknown to you and run up, give them a slap, hug, wedgie, "Hey, how you doing?!" and then realise you don't have a clue who they are!

Be a Health & Safety Officer
Again, whilst on your promenading commute, observe a serious hazard (leaf on the road) and dramatically fend others away and around at safe proximity!

The Bible says that 'A merry heart doeth good like a medicine'. Decide to see the funny side to life! You'll feel and look great due to the continual smile on your face, others around you will be liberated to be themselves, and as 'laughter lubricates learning'* you'll get a First**!
