Claremont Road Fundraising Support
Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter
The opportunity:
Claremont Road was opened in 1919 and looks after thousands of animals every year. After 88 years, time has taken its toll, and the buildings are desperately in need of renewal. The plans are now reaching the final stages and work is expected to begin in early 2007. Unfortunately building costs are escalating at a rapid rate and we desperately need more funds to ensure we can build all three new kennel blocks, complete with covered exercise areas. We also need to raise funds for Phase 3 of the build which will bring new heated puppy and kitten rooms for our younger ones. There will also be a new cattery where every cat will have a snug sleeping space and access to an exercise area. A new treatment room will also be built for health checks, vaccinating and scanning.
The new plans will allow wheelchairs and prams easy access and will provide space to walk and sit with the dogs, enabling people to get to know the dog they would like to adopt.
We need volunteer support to raise the profile of our appeal, to encourage sponsorship, and contact other organisations to encourage them to host events and raise money on our behalf.
The organisation:
We receive between 4,000 and 6,000 animals per year, which all need our help in some way, whether it's to reunite them with their owner, find a suitable new home or provide veterinary treatment. We spend over 40,000 per year on veterinary treatment, that's without taking into account our staff time and the special aftercare needed.
Between our two shelters we can hold up to 250 dogs and 200 cats and at present we are full with animals looking for loving homes, see our dog and cat galleries for some of the animals currently in our care or come and visit us.
All Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter volunteers will be managed by either Claremont Road Shelter or Benton North Farm Shelter. All volunteers need to follow the advice and guidelines of the shelter managers. Please note that voluntary status does not entitle volunteers to represent Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter or use the charity's logos in any way.
